an app for independent and cooperative workouts in the gym

A chain of fitness clubs offers new clients to start training with a trainer. Usually after a few months, having received the necessary knowledge from a professional, people move on to independent training. But over time, they lose discipline and motivation and stop attending the gym. To support its customers in doing sports, the network decided to create an app for self-guided workouts.
To find out the true problems and needs of users, we conducted in-depth interviews with gym-goers. Based on the answers, we decided to add the possibility of joint training with other users to support motivation.
Together with professional athletes and trainers, we developed a methodology that formed the basis of the workout planner tool. It takes into account the required loads and the set of training equipment available in the gym.
athletes and coaches were interviewed
types of training sessions planned
of clients expected to be attracted to the app

We started the project with user experience research and competitive analysis, mapped personas and started developing a functional prototype. Then we held discussions with the customer and a focus group of athletes to make final revisions to the functionality.
The design of the app was kept concise and in line with the brand identity of the fitness club chain. AntDesign, an open-source design system, was used for cross-platformfunctionality.
Everyone fills in a personalised training calendar according to their own plan. The workout planner functionality allows the user to select the type of exercise, number of approaches, weight and other parameters.
Users invite each other to joint training sessions and become participants in a virtual challenge. Data transfer from the server using web sockets allows the application to work as a social network or messenger. The invitation to a joint training session comes in real time.
In a personal account, training results are visualised in graphs, charts and figures. The user can see their results by day of the week, load and type of training. To support motivation, a personalised activity level is displayed in comparison with other users of the same age group.
There are two tariffs: free and PRO with extended statistics for the whole period of training and personal AI, which helps to make training programmes and gives recommendations.
For payment, a token is generated and automatically sent to your email.
This PWA is a progressive web app that looks and works like a mobile app. The upside of this approach: by leveraging one web development team, we got an app that works great on Android and iOS smartphones.
